Fossil Hymn

Poem
By Geoffrey Krawczyk

I.

Quiver in the clouds
on hummingbird flight
or dry insect wings.

Those veins stretched tight
across amber glass
and tattered ivory cloth.

Ancient harmonies
of locust violins
are woven through the sky.

Delicate thread for bones.

II.

Dusk slowly crawls
over hills of history
with animal breath

in order to decay,

folded up inside
my parchment-paper skin.

III.

Song of ash.

Chalk dust cumulous,
sifting ever down

to bury me.
